Freeland - our go to spot for tacos, vintage treasures, and a hometown hardware store with friendly advice on everything from paintbrushes to crab pots

Freeland - our closest town, our go to spot for tacos, for vintage treasures, and especially for a hometown hardware store with friendly advice on everything from paintbrushes to crab pots. We do our grocery shopping on island here at the Payless Foods - although on Whidbey it never is actually paying less and we stock up on the mainland when possible.
We love to stop in for a cup of coffee, homemade quiche and a friendly chat at Jupiter coffee. Or we grab a couple bags of frozen scones for tomorrows breakfast. She also makes the best breakfast biscuit sandwiches.
Don't miss the specials at Rocket Taco - their drinks are perfect and their patio is beautiful. Vegetarians and Carnivores agree -- always order the chickpea and cauliflower tacos! For a sweet date night we would try Gordon's on Blueberry Hill. Reservations recommended - this small spot fills up fast with locals. Their northwest take on southern comfort food is amazing. The shrimp and grits with pork belly is beautiful.
If you are an old soul who appreciates a vintage shop, there are few options -- but the Mutiny Bay Antique mall has a great selection of vendors.
