No Cooking - Just Relaxing

Our wins on Whidbey when we need low effort meals that still make us all excited.

Somedays I think the hardest part of parenting is figuring out what to feed everyone, everyday - - forever - - and that's coming from someone who loves to cook. There are days that I'm just out of creativity and I am looking for someone to choose for me. I hope these mini-itineraries and suggestions can take some of the research, ideas and creativity from our family and send it along to you.

Directly off the ferry is the tiny town of Clinton.

First stop -- Whidbey Island Coffee Stand, local coffee roasters with beans in the grocery store and drive thru locations. The Mocha Breve is so dark and creamy and perfect! Next up - - Pop over to Whidbey Island Bagel Factory and grab a few bagels for tomorrow's brunch. If you like smoked salmon their caper smoked salmon cream cheese is delicious! The other family favorite in this area is Pickles Deli, for a quick sandwich to go. The Ruben is Wilson's go to order and the Spicy Italian is my favorite.

Rocket Tacos has irresistibly inventive monthly specials. On the standard menu our favorites are probably the traditional shredded beef tacos and the deluxe chicken tacos.

Always - ALWAYS get hot sauce.

Hop back in the car and cruise up Hwy 525 through the town of Freeland.

This town on the edge of Holmes Harbor is close to our place and we do a lot of our errands and our grocery shopping here. Our best bets for dinner are picking up chips & guacamole and some tacos at Rocket Taco or getting crowd-pleasing sweet & sour pork at China City. Both restaurants are doing a great job with curbside pickup.

For lunches the next day or a quick stop for coffee - I highly recommend Greenbank Pantry and Deli. Only a few minutes north - all their sandwiches are on fresh house baked bread and every one I have tried is just amazing. There can be a bit of a wait, these are handcrafted masterpieces, so we call ahead. This might be the home of the best reuben sandwich on Whidbey. We are still in the process of trying them all - stay tuned.

If you need a sweet treat - pastries & coffee at Jupiter coffee in Freeland are a winner and the owner is absolutely so sweet and loves to share stories. Or check out Whidbey Pies up north at Greenbank Farms. We adore the strawberry rhubarb.
