About our books and about ourselves

“I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Take time to browse a bookshelf and you find you are learning a little bit about who some is and about who they wish to be. One of the most meaningful interactions in my life is discovering where we all have connected moments of similar interests, shared experiences and mutual curiosities. If we don't have a conversation in person -- you might get to know me by taking a peek into the stacks we are curating on these dusty old shelves.
“Books serve to show a man that those original thoughts of his aren't very new after all.” ― Abraham Lincoln
In our library, photography books reside between local cookbooks and tiny vintage books of poetry. Oversized coffee table art books are meant for our kids to take down and browse - to inspire their next creative endeavors. Wilson is fascinated with WW2 history and I'm forever interested in the flora & fauna of the Salish Sea. Encyclopedia sets remind me of long days reading anything I could find in the farmhouse where I grew up. You might find hilarious books that all three of our children loved, you might reread some favorites from your childhood or you might discover a new treasure to read aloud with your own family.
We were both raised in the Pacific Northwest and appreciate the incredible diversity that is in our backyard. In the spirit of appreciating that gift we have plenty of books to enrich our understanding of the natural world around us from whales to barnacles -- mushrooms to goldfinches. We also have a few favorite beach reads -- some mysteries and little romance and some whimsical fantasy. For the cozy winter months by the fire there are westerns and biographies and a little lighthearted comedy. Most importantly - we have books we still want to read mixed with the beloved stories we could read again and again.
Let me know what you have read and what you wish was on the shelf -- so I can get to know you a little better too.
Cheers and Happy Reading,
Alyce
